Your first group ride
Organizing a group ride for the first time is mostly about clear communication and a route that matches the group. Use this guide, then publish the ride on Moto Band so everyone shares one link.
1. Keep the first ride small
- Aim for 4–8 bikes so you can manage pace and stops easily
- Invite riders you already know or who ride a similar style
- Avoid mixing absolute beginners with very fast sport riders on day one
2. Choose a friendly route
- Pick roads you have ridden recently in similar weather
- Plan 80–150 km with at least one coffee stop
- Include an easy bail-out option back to the start
3. Set expectations in the invite
- State meeting time, distance, pace, and rain policy clearly
- Ask riders to arrive with a full tank
- Share a permanent event link so late joiners can find details
4. On the day
- Do a 60-second briefing: lead, sweep, hand signals, first stop
- Leave gaps at junctions so nobody feels pressured
- End with a short debrief — what to improve next time
